Glenea - Delivering Innovative Civil Engineering Solutions for Thames Water
At Glenea Contracts, we provide civil engineering services with a mission to provide innovative and sustainable solutions to meet the needs of our clients and communities. In January 2021, we were appointed by Agility Alliance Joint Venture to execute proposed works for the Thames Water London Infrastructure Programme.
Project Overview:
The project involved the rehabilitation of approximately 300 meters of an existing 16” cast iron trunk main and the construction of a DN300 potable water connection for the proposed HS2 Project. Thames Water identified the trunk main as a strategic asset with a history of catastrophic failures. The project was located in the heavily congested public domain of Euston, London, and had an approximate value of £500,000.
Project Specific Complexities:
One of the major complexities of the project was to ensure that the heavily congested public domain in the vicinity of Euston Station was maintained throughout the duration of the works. Additionally, the contractor had to mitigate the associated risks of catastrophic failures to avoid loss of supply to customers.
Innovations & Solutions:
To overcome these challenges, Glenea Contracts implemented a slip lining methodology that considerably reduced the volume of excavation, minimizing inconvenience to residents, local businesses, commuters, and road users. The company worked closely with Thames Water and Agility Alliance to plan and coordinate the isolation of the existing 16” cast iron trunk main, ensuring customer supply was maintained throughout the works.
project Outcome:
The project was finished on the planned completion date of June 2021. Through the use of innovative solutions and close collaboration with clients, Glenea Contracts was committed to delivering high-quality civil engineering services that meet the needs of communities and enhance their quality of life.
